Islam and American Pluralism

From the Faith Angle Miami 2023 Forum in Miami, FL

Mustafa Akyol,

Dalia Mogahed,

This session will highlight the role of Muslim Americans in contributing to religious pluralism, particularly in times of political fracture and cultural fragmentation. Our speakers will explore what it means to be a Muslim in America—after 9/11, in the Age of Trump, and with shifting attitudes about immigration. How do Muslim religious convictions relate to other layered identities, including when non-Muslims obfuscate these realities? What spiritual resources within Islamic teaching and worshipping-communities provide sustenance? And how have American Muslims at times acted in solidarity with those from other faith communities, to build trust and renewal?
